[Financial News] Referring to President Lee Jae-myung’s move on the 4th to invite the heads of 10 major companies to the presidential office and secure pledges for large-scale youth hiring and regional investment, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk said on the 5th, "Tying companies’ hands and feet and then yelling at them to increase regional investment is no different from a mob boss collecting protection money."
At the supreme council meeting at the National Assembly that day, Jang argued, "President Lee Jae-myung virtually forced group chairmen, whom he summoned to the presidential office, to increase youth hiring and expand regional investment. It is essentially a stunt for the local elections."
He went on, "Without granting exceptions to the 52-hour workweek in research and development, and while ramming through anti-business economic laws such as the Yellow Envelope Law, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and an even tougher Commercial Act, does the President really think scolding companies will increase youth employment?" He added, "If there is money to be made, companies will invest not only in the regions but even in space. Yet instead of improving investment conditions, the government keeps piling on regulations at every turn."
Jang said, "If you went to the trouble of calling in busy business leaders, you should at least have listened to the difficulties they face," and urged, "If the President truly cares about the regions and young people, he should immediately withdraw the economic bad laws now being pushed and sit down with the opposition to work things out."
He also took issue with President Lee’s recent criticism of multi-homeowners on social networking service (SNS), where Lee wrote, "They say money is the devil; could it be that some have even let the devil rob them of the last shred of conscience?" Jang countered, "There is more than one devil in the presidential office and the cabinet," and pointed out, "President Lee himself held on to an apartment he did not live in for more than four years. If he had really believed housing prices would fall, he would have sold it."
He continued, "Yet he intimidates ordinary people, telling them to sell their homes right away," and argued, "By dividing and attacking homeowners to win votes, the government only drives up housing prices and deepens the despair of low-income people without homes."
Jang stressed, "President Lee Jae-myung’s anger toward real estate is also for the sake of the local elections," adding, "The people are not devils. The people know very well who the real devils are."
