\r\n【New York, Financial News – Reporter Lee Byung-chul】 Donald Trump, President of the United States, said on the 4th (local time) that he held a phone call with Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, and discussed a wide range of issues.
Posting on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, "I just had a very excellent phone call with President Xi," adding that "the call was long and very in-depth."
He noted that the topics covered included trade, military issues, his planned visit to China in April, the Taiwan issue, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and matters related to Iran. In particular, he stated that "China is purchasing U.S. oil and gas, and is considering additional purchases of U.S. agricultural products."
Regarding China’s purchases of U.S. soybeans, he explained that China has agreed to increase its purchases to 20 million tons for the current season and has promised to buy 25 million tons in the next season.
Trump went on to say, "Our relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, are very friendly, and we both recognize how important it is to maintain that." He also stressed, "I believe we can achieve many positive outcomes with President Xi and China over the remaining three years of my term."
This call was the first in about two months, following their previous conversation on November 24 last year. That earlier call took place roughly a month after the U.S.-China summit held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju.
