The volume of purchases of homes affected by jeonse fraud has been rising rapidly in recent months. In January alone, 892 such homes were acquired, marking the highest monthly figure to date.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 5th that the Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Committee held three full meetings in January, reviewing 1,135 cases in total. Of these, 540 cases were ultimately approved as jeonse fraud victims and related parties. Cumulatively, 36,449 cases have now been recognized as jeonse fraud victims and related parties.
As of January 27, the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) had purchased 5,889 homes affected by jeonse fraud. Of these, 5,128 units were acquired after the launch of the new administration in June 2025, accounting for 87% of the total.
Purchases have shown a clear upward trend. In all of 2024, only 90 such homes were bought. In the first half of 2025, the number rose to a monthly average of 163 units, or 977 in total, and in the second half to a monthly average of 655 units, or 3,930 in total. This January alone, 892 homes were purchased.
Under the purchase program, victims transfer their priority purchase rights to LH, which then acquires the properties through auctions or public tenders. The homes bought in this way are used as public rental housing so that affected households can continue living in their existing homes.
The government is also coordinating auction and public sale schedules with district courts to ensure that purchases proceed smoothly. After acquisition, the homes are converted into public rental units to help stabilize housing for affected households.
