[Financial News] Conservative YouTuber Jeon Han-gil, a 55-year-old former Korean history lecturer, will be questioned by police over allegations that he spread false information about President Lee Jae-myung and Kim Hyun-ji, the senior presidential secretary for the First Executive Office.
On the 4th, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) announced that Jeon is scheduled to appear on the 12th as a suspect on charges including defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.
Jeon is currently the subject of eight criminal complaints, including one filed last October by the Public Communication Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea. The complaints allege that he disseminated false information about President Lee and Senior Secretary Kim.
Jeon returned to South Korea on the 3rd via Fukuoka, Japan, arriving at Incheon International Airport. It was his first time back in 162 days. He said, "I entered the country in response to the police summons," adding, "I will faithfully cooperate with the investigation and prove my innocence." He also stressed, "There is no risk of flight or destruction of evidence."
Police plan to review whether an additional summons is necessary after hearing Jeon's statement regarding the complaints that have been filed.
