Financial News – Intel announced on the 3rd that it has unveiled its new Intel Xeon 600 processor for client workstations.
The newly released workstation processor significantly increases the number of cores and delivers broad improvements over the previous portfolio, including PCIe connectivity, support for faster memory speeds, and the highest power-efficiency gains to date.
Hector Guevarez, director of the workstation division in Intel Client Computing Group (CCG), said, "As demand for high-performance computing continues to grow across many industries, the Intel Xeon 600 workstation processor enables us to provide professionals with the platforms they need for their daily work," adding, "With outstanding performance efficiency, expanded artificial intelligence (AI) computing capabilities, a wide range of Intel vPro technologies, and powerful platform connectivity, this platform is the optimal choice for professionals who require the performance and capabilities that only high-end workstations can deliver."
The new Intel Xeon 600 workstation processor offers advantages for a wide range of workloads, including data science and AI development, engineering simulation and visualization, and media and entertainment content creation. Key benefits include greatly improved multithread (MT) performance over the previous generation, more powerful input/output (I/O) performance, enhanced wired and wireless connectivity, and expanded support for advanced AI training and inference workloads.
Based on Intel 3 process technology and the Redwood Cove Plus core architecture, the Intel Xeon 600 workstation processor increases core counts across the product line. For example, the 86-core Xeon 698X delivers up to 61% better MT performance at the same power target compared with the previous-generation 64-core W3595X, marking a substantial performance uplift.
The launch of the Intel Xeon 600 processor for workstations also sets a new bar for overclocking performance on workstation platforms. Intel announced that, through a partnership with ASUS and the ASUS overclocking team, it achieved multiple overclocking world records at the time of product release.
Using the Intel Xeon 698X processor and an ASUS Pro WS W890E-SAGE SE motherboard, Intel and ASUS set overclocking world records in 10 benchmark categories, including Geekbench 4 multi-core, Geekbench 5 multi-core, and Y-cruncher (up to 28B). Through this collaboration, they also secured additional global first-place rankings in 10 categories such as Geekbench 3 multi-core, Geekbench 6 multi-core, Cinebench R20, R23, R15, and Y-cruncher (up to 100B).
Intel Xeon 600 processors for workstations will be available from the end of March this year.
