[Financial News] The Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Team, led by special prosecutor Min Jung-ki and in charge of investigating and prosecuting various allegations surrounding First Lady Kim Keon Hee, has appointed attorney Shin Kyung-hee as a new assistant special prosecutor.
According to legal circles on the 3rd, President Lee Jae-myung approved the team’s appointment of attorney Shin as assistant special prosecutor the previous day. Starting that day, Shin began carrying out her duties in earnest in her new role.
Shin, a 40th class graduate of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, previously worked at Gangnam Law Firm and served as a member of the 3rd Telecommunications Dispute Mediation Committee under the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), as well as an auditor at KORAIL Retail. Within the special prosecutor team, she had been a special investigator in charge of public relations and investigative work. Given her deep understanding of the overall cases, the team appears to have chosen to promote an internal staff member rather than bringing in outside personnel in a way that might be seen as excessive.
As an assistant special prosecutor, Shin is expected to handle trial work in addition to public relations. The team views her role as crucial, as its court cases are still ongoing and appeals and further challenges to higher courts are anticipated. The special prosecutor team has also moved its operations from its former Gwanghwamun office, used until last month, to a new office in Gwacheon.
All four assistant special prosecutors appointed at the launch of the special prosecutor team are understood to have returned to their original posts as of last month.
Assistant special prosecutor Park Sang-jin, who had led the Unification Church investigation, returned to his post in mid‐month. Assistant special prosecutors Kim Hyung-geun, Oh Jung-hee, and Hong-Ju Moon also left the special prosecutor team as of the 30th of last month.
With the assistant special prosecutors who had overseen investigations from the early days of the team now having completed their work, the special prosecutor team is set to maintain a four‐member assistant structure. Former judges Park No-soo (31st class) and Kim Kyung-ho (22nd class) joined the team in earnest on October 27 last year, and this month former prosecutor Kim Han-soo was added as another assistant special prosecutor. With attorney Shin now joining as well, the team plans once again to rely on a four‐assistant structure to maintain the prosecution.
