According to The Financial News, President Lee Jae-myung on the 3rd strongly expressed his determination to eradicate real estate speculation, stressing, "We will, by any means necessary, put an end to ruinous real estate speculation that can destroy the country." He also stated, "The pledge fulfillment rate of the Lee Jae-myung administration is around 95% on average," adding, "As a president who holds the final authority, I have no reason to make empty promises."
Posting on social media the same day, President Lee responded to some voices talking about the so-called "tears of multiple-home owners." He wrote, "To those who feel sorry for the tears of the hundreds of thousands of multiple-home owners who seek unearned income through real estate speculation, I would like to ask: can you not see the suffering of the millions of young people who give up on marriage and childbirth because of the high housing costs caused by these people?" He went on, "They say money is the devil; surely it has not stripped away even the bare minimum of conscience, has it?"
President Lee also argued that circumstances have changed compared with the past. "In the past, real estate was the only investment vehicle, but now there are alternative investment options," he said, adding, "The objective situation is completely different from before." He further noted, "According to a national perception survey, real estate used to overwhelmingly rank as the top investment vehicle, but it has now fallen to second place."
He continued, "The power chosen by the people has changed," reiterating that "the pledge fulfillment rate of the Lee Jae-myung administration is around 95% on average." He emphasized, "Even as a candidate desperate to win, I tried to keep my promises, and as a president who holds the final authority, I have no reason to make empty promises."
President Lee said, "To those who think this is just a bluff, I urge you to look coldly at how reality has changed," adding, "If we stop calculating immediate political gains and losses, there are plenty of policy tools we can use." He then stressed, "This is not a threat or a bluff; I am recommending it because it is necessary and beneficial for everyone," and added, "This is your last chance to get out."
At the end of his post, President Lee wrote, "Lee Jae Myung delivers. The Republic of Korea (South Korea) delivers."
