The Financial News, New York City – Reporter Lee Byung-chulU.S. President Donald Trump harshly condemned this year’s Grammy Awards broadcast as "the worst" and warned that he would file a lawsuit against comedian Trevor Noah, who hosted the show. He was angered by a joke during the ceremony that linked him to sex offender Jeffrey Edward Epstein.
Right after the broadcast ended on the 2nd (local time), Trump wrote on Truth Social, "The Grammy Awards are the worst. Virtually unwatchable," expressing strong dissatisfaction. He also pointed out that CBS, which has aired the Grammys for decades, is ending its coverage with this year’s show, and argued, "It is fortunate for CBS that this garbage will no longer pollute their airwaves."
This year’s ceremony ran for more than three hours, and some musicians used their time on stage to openly criticize the Federal government of the United States for its policies on cracking down on undocumented immigrants.
What triggered Trump’s anger was a remark Trevor Noah made near the end of the show. Referring to Billie Eilish, who won Song of the Year, Noah said, "This is the award every artist wants. As much as Trump wants Greenland," and then joked, "Now that Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new island to hang out on with the Clintons."
Jeffrey Edward Epstein owned a private island in the Caribbean Sea while he was alive, and whistleblowers have long alleged that the sexual exploitation of minors took place there.
Trump immediately pushed back. "I have never been to Epstein’s island, nor have I ever been anywhere near it," he insisted, adding, "Until tonight’s false and defamatory statements, not even the fake news media had ever claimed I was there."
The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has released millions of documents related to the Epstein case, and the names of President Donald Trump and former President Bill Clinton appear in those files. However, Trump has consistently denied any illegal conduct connected to Epstein, and Clinton’s office has likewise said that he "knew nothing about Epstein’s crimes."
Trump also launched a personal attack on Noah, calling him "a total loser" and declaring, "If he doesn’t correct the record quickly, I will send in the lawyers and file a lawsuit. We will be seeking a substantial amount."
