[The Financial News] In London, the United Kingdom (UK), two thieves in broad daylight smashed the window of a jewelry store that was open for business with a hammer and fled with a large haul of precious metals.
On the 1st (local time), the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), The Daily Telegraph and other local media reported that two thieves had raided a jewelry store in Richmond, London at around 10:30 a.m. the previous day. A video of the crime was also posted on a social networking service (SNS).
In the video shared on SNS, two masked thieves can be seen smashing and prying open the store window with a large hammer, then sweeping the displayed jewelry into a blue bag.
Staff inside the store struggle to stop the thieves but are unable to overpower them. One employee standing on the opposite side of the display case tries to block the thief from taking the jewelry, while another hurriedly moves the displayed items further inside so they cannot be grabbed.
From across the street, witnesses who see the theft shout, "Call the police!"
After stuffing the jewelry into their bag, the thieves fled the scene and have not yet been caught. The Metropolitan Police Service (the Met) is investigating the incident as a major theft case and has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
According to media reports, the jewelry store that was robbed is a family-run business and has been operating in the area for more than 45 years.
