The police, who are investigating North Korea's claim that South Korean drones infiltrated its airspace, announced that they have so far conducted a total of six rounds of suspect interrogations.
At a regular press briefing held on the morning of the 2nd at the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) in Seodaemun District, Seoul, a police official stated, "So far, the police have conducted a total of six suspect interrogations and five witness interviews," adding, "We are also questioning military officials, but it is difficult to disclose specific details at this time."
The police also declined to comment in detail on whether they would apply charges of benefiting the enemy to the suspects. Earlier, the Joint Military-Police Investigation Task Force announced that it had booked three civilian suspects, including a man in his 30s identified only by his surname Oh, a graduate student, on charges under the Aviation Safety Act and the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act and was investigating them.
The police official said, "We are keeping all possibilities open and conducting the investigation to establish the full facts," and added, "There is nothing further we can share at this point."
Harold Rogers, acting head of Coupang Korea, appeared before the police on the 30th of last month and provided explanations regarding the allegations, according to investigators.
A police official explained, "We conducted about 12 hours of questioning in connection with the allegation of destruction of evidence, and he gave answers throughout that sought to refute the charges," and added, "As for plans to summon him over other cases, such as alleged concealment of industrial accidents, we will follow due procedure for any cases that have been formally reported."
Regarding the status of the Gadeokdo Terror Task Force investigation into the attack on President Lee Jae-myung, the official said, "On the 28th of last month, we reinforced the team by adding 24 investigators, bringing the total to 69," and continued, "We have obtained and are analyzing case records from relevant agencies, and we are conducting witness interviews with officials from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and others."
