[Financial News] A photo of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, younger brother of King Charles III, touching the body of a woman lying on the floor has been made public, sparking controversy.
According to reports on the 1st from outlets including Cable News Network (CNN), the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) released additional files related to Jeffrey Edward Epstein the previous day. The files include photos of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, lying on top of a woman or girl who is stretched out on the floor and placing his hands on her body.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the background in these photos appears to match Herbert N. Straus House, the New York mansion of American billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Edward Epstein.
Emails exchanged between Jeffrey Edward Epstein and Prince Andrew, Duke of York, in August 2010 were also disclosed.
In one email at the time, Jeffrey Edward Epstein invited Prince Andrew, Duke of York, writing, "Let’s have dinner with a smart, beautiful and trustworthy 26-year-old Russian woman." Prince Andrew, Duke of York, replied, "I would be very pleased to meet her," and asked that his email address be passed on to her.
CNN explained, "These messages were sent two years after Jeffrey Edward Epstein pleaded guilty to charges of soliciting sex from a minor."
Another email released appears to show that a month later Prince Andrew, Duke of York, invited Jeffrey Edward Epstein to Buckingham Palace. Prince Andrew, Duke of York, proposed a dinner that would be "sufficiently private," and Jeffrey Edward Epstein replied that he "needed some private time."
A woman who claims she spent a night with Prince Andrew, Duke of York, at a royal residence in 2010 through the arrangements of Jeffrey Edward Epstein has also come forward.
According to the BBC, this woman alleges that Jeffrey Edward Epstein sent her to the United Kingdom for a sexual encounter with Prince Andrew, Duke of York.
Through her lawyer, the woman testified that she spent a night at Royal Lodge, then the official residence of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, after which she was given a tour of Buckingham Palace and served tea.
Prince Andrew, Duke of York, the younger brother of King Charles III and second son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has long been embroiled in scandal, including allegations that he forced Virginia Giuffre, who was employed by Jeffrey Edward Epstein, to have sex with him when she was 17. Prince Andrew, Duke of York, has denied the accusations, but late last year the royal family stripped him of most of his royal titles, including his style as prince and his title as Duke of York.
The release of the photos has caused a major stir not only in the United States but also in the United Kingdom. Major British outlets, including the BBC, The Guardian and Daily Mail, featured the images prominently on their online front pages.
CNN reported, "The latest revelations have intensified political pressure on the disgraced royal."
Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, urged Prince Andrew, Duke of York, to testify before the United States Congress regarding his ties to the late Jeffrey Edward Epstein. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Starmer stated, "The victims of Epstein must come first," adding, "If he is not prepared to do that, then he cannot claim to be taking a victim-centered approach."
