[The Financial News] The police have launched a special investigation team to uncover the full truth behind allegations of sexual violence against women with disabilities at Saekdongwon residential facility for people with severe developmental disabilities in Ganghwa County, Incheon.
The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) announced on the 1st that, following an emergency directive from the Prime Minister of South Korea, it had set up a "Saekdongwon case special investigation team" within the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) the previous day.
The special unit is led by the head of the SMPA Public Safety and Traffic Department and consists of 27 investigators across two teams, 47 police officers from 10 Sunflower Centers dedicated to interviewing people with disabilities, and outside experts from institutions such as Sexual Violence Counseling Centers.
An official at the KNPA stated, "We will conduct a swift and rigorous investigation into allegations of sexual violence, abuse, and misuse of subsidies, and we will do our utmost to protect and support the victims."
