[Financial News] Supporters of former People Power Party (PPP) leader Han Dong-hoon, who was expelled from the party, held a large rally in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 31st. They demanded the resignation of party leader Jang Dong-hyeok and other members of the party leadership.
Participants chanted slogans such as "Expulsion is useless, Han Dong-hoon will rise again," "Oust Jang Dong-hyeok," and "Yoon Again, get lost," as they marched through the streets of Yeouido. Placards and banners reading "We will protect the true conservative, Han Dong-hoon" and "Jang Dong-hyeok, who carried out the unjust disciplinary action, must be ready to face the consequences" were seen at the scene.
Taking the stage, former Supreme Council member Kim Jong-hyuk declared, "The moment the expulsion of former leader Han was finalized on the 29th, the party we loved died." He argued, "By driving out Han Dong-hoon and reverting to being the 'Yoon Again' party, it effectively signed its own death certificate." Conservative commentator Cho Gab-je added, "Those who make a living peddling conspiracy theories about election fraud should be sent to prison."
Han himself did not attend the rally. However, through a fan platform he posted messages such as "Thank you," "I’m glad the weather is less cold," and "I will build a better country through good politics." He is expected to continue efforts to rally his base, including a talk concert scheduled for February 8 at Jamsil Arena.
In response, the PPP reaffirmed its stance to confront the situation head-on. Park Sung-hoon, the party’s chief spokesperson, told reporters at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, "We will also listen humbly to their voices," but added, "The majority of party members want the party to move toward the future rather than be trapped in past issues." Regarding calls within the party for Jang to resign or face a confidence vote, he drew a line, saying, "The party leader is a position elected by a vote of all party members."
