[The Financial News] Nvidia Corporation is reportedly considering putting on hold a planned investment partnership worth $100 billion (about 140 trillion won) with OpenAI.
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and other foreign media on the 30th (local time), Nvidia Corporation has suspended its investment plan in OpenAI.
Skepticism over the investment has been growing within Nvidia Corporation. CEO Jensen Huang has recently told industry officials that the investment agreement with OpenAI is nonbinding and not finalized, according to reports.
As a result, the two companies are said to be reexamining the terms of their partnership. One option under discussion is for Nvidia Corporation to participate in an ongoing OpenAI funding round instead.
The two firms had previously announced in September last year that they had formed a strategic partnership under which Nvidia Corporation planned to invest $100 billion in OpenAI. OpenAI was to use the funds to build a 10-gigawatt (10 GW) AI data center and, in the process, purchase chips such as Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) products from Nvidia Corporation.
After signing a letter of intent, the companies aimed to finalize the details within a few weeks, but there has been little real progress. Nvidia Corporation even stated in its earnings report last November that there was "no guarantee" the investment in OpenAI would be finalized.
