According to legal sources on the 30th, the investigation headquarters conducted searches and seizures from that morning at the Headquarters of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus in Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, and at the Peace Training Institute, known as the Peace Palace, in Goseong-ri, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. The Peace Palace is known as the residence of Shincheonji leader Lee Man-hee. The search warrant reportedly lists Shincheonji officials as suspects on charges including violations of the Political Parties Act.
Shincheonji is suspected of systematically directing its followers to join the People Power Party (PPP) and other parties as members. During questioning of former Shincheonji executives, the investigation headquarters obtained statements that Shincheonji, under a project called the "Pilates Project," encouraged its followers to sign up as party members, and that as a result, tens of thousands of followers joined the PPP as full members.
