[The Financial News] Musical actor Ock Joo-hyun has responded head-on, with a relaxed attitude, to the recent controversy over her allegedly monopolizing performance dates.
On the 28th, Ock Joo-hyun shared a short video on her social media showing herself in a prison-uniform stage costume and smiled as she said, "Prisoner. My crime? The fact that I'm Ock Joo-hyun."
Her post is being interpreted as a reaction to the recent controversy that she monopolized the schedule for the musical "Anna Karenina."
Ock Joo-hyun was triple-cast in the musical "Anna Karenina" alongside Kim So-hyang and Lee Ji-hye, but critics have pointed out that Ock Joo-hyun has an overwhelmingly higher number of performances than the others.
According to the first and second casting schedules released earlier by producer Mast Entertainment, Ock Joo-hyun is slated to appear in 23 out of a total of 38 performances, while Lee Ji-hye appears in 8 and Kim So-hyang in 7.
In particular, 5 out of Kim So-hyang's 7 assigned shows are daytime performances, leading to criticism that prime-time shows are concentrated on a specific actor. Casting schedules are generally expected to be distributed evenly among the cast.
By contrast, the performance dates for the male lead role of Alexei Vronsky, played by Yoon Hyung-ryeol, Moon Yu-gang, and Jung Seung-won, are relatively evenly distributed, which has further fueled suspicions that the female lead casting is being skewed in favor of one actor. Adding to the controversy, Kim So-hyang recently posted the cryptic phrase "I have a lot to say, but I won't" on her social media.
