MOTIE to Convey Commitment to Implement Tariff Agreement to US and Respond Actively

According to The Financial News, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on the 27th that, in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariff increases, it took part in an emergency response meeting held that morning, chaired by the policy chief of Cheong Wa Dae (the Blue House), to review the situation and discuss response plans.
Minister Kim Jung-kwan, who is currently in Canada, joined the meeting by phone, while Trade Negotiations Minister Yeo Han-koo attended in person in Korea.
Based on the discussions at the meeting, Kim Jung-kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, plans to visit the United States of America (US) as soon as his schedule in Canada ends to consult on the issue with Howard William Lutnick, U.S. Secretary of Commerce. Trade Negotiations Minister Yeo Han-koo is also expected to visit the US soon to hold talks with Jamieson Greer, United States Trade Representative (USTR).
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy intends to work closely with relevant ministries to convey our government’s commitment to implementing the tariff agreement to the US side and to respond actively.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the US side previously sent a letter to the Minister of Science and ICT urging follow-up implementation of the trade agreement. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy added, "We ask for your understanding that we cannot disclose or confirm the specific contents of the letter or other matters exchanged diplomatically between the two governments."
