[The Financial News] A man in his 30s has been taken into police custody on suspicion of threatening another man he had argued with on social media, after arranging to meet him in person.
Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul announced on the 27th that they had urgently arrested a man surnamed Kim, in his 30s, on the 23rd on charges of aggravated intimidation.
Kim is accused of threatening a man identified as A at around 3:10 p.m. on the 23rd in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, after the two had a dispute via social media. During questioning, victim A reportedly stated to police, "Kim showed up holding an object that looked like a weapon."
Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report from A claiming that "he appeared holding a weapon wrapped in a towel." Investigators believe Kim and A had agreed to meet in person after their conflict escalated on social media.
During the arrest, officers seized the towel Kim was holding, but no actual weapon was found. The investigation showed that Kim is currently unemployed, and no one was injured in the incident.
Kim has reportedly denied the allegations during police questioning, saying, "I was only holding a rolled-up towel and did not possess any weapon."
A police official stated, "We have confirmed that there was actual contact following threats made on social media," adding, "Kim has been booked without physical detention, and we are investigating the detailed circumstances of the case."
