According to the financial sector on the 27th, Hyundai Capital Services received the Innovative Artificial Intelligence Application Award at an awards ceremony held by the International Artificial Intelligence Society (Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)) in Singapore on the 24th (local time).
The award recognized Hyundai Capital Services' paper titled "Optimizing Preferential Rate in Retail Lending with Causal Inference and Domain Adaptation."
Founded in 1979, the International Artificial Intelligence Society is one of the most prestigious AI academic organizations, publishing research papers on AI achievements from around the world. The Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) awards, established in 1989 and now in their 38th year, honor projects that successfully apply AI technologies to real-world products and services. Until now, global big tech companies such as Amazon.com, Inc. and International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) have mainly been the recipients.
Among financial institutions, Hyundai Capital Services is the first and only company in the world to win this award three times. The company had already received the same award in 2023 and 2024.
An official from the International Artificial Intelligence Society commented, "Hyundai Capital Services' paper is an innovative example of using AI to address real issues in the industry," adding, "Its technological impact is very high, and it is expected to have a significant ripple effect on the AI-based marketing strategies of financial companies."
In practice, Hyundai Capital Services is building differentiated AI capabilities across each process of its core business area, car finance.
At the time of its first award in 2023, the company was recognized for its innovation in accurately predicting the current and future value of vehicles and calculating appropriate prices. The following year, it was acknowledged for the value of its proprietary algorithm that built a loan screening system capable of providing explanations to financial consumers.
This year, the key factor was the expanded use of AI into the marketing domain, where it proposes the optimal financial product for each individual customer.
Through technological advances, Hyundai Capital Services is pushing for a full-scale transition to an Agentic AI system, in which AI itself can define and solve problems across the entire process from product development and marketing to credit screening.
A Hyundai Capital Services representative stated, "Through continuous research, we have advanced our AI so that it is not only used to improve the efficiency of routine tasks, but can also be applied to core business decision-making." The representative continued, "This time, our AI capabilities were recognized as having evolved beyond simple operational efficiency to become a key driver of high-level decision-making, even in the financial industry where numerous variables are at play."
Hyundai Capital Services is also strengthening its human resources structure. Last year, it appointed Kee-Eung Kim, a distinguished professor at the Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI at KAIST (KAIST AI) and head of the National AI Research Hub, as an outside director.
