Suraksan fire brought under control after six hours; parts of Suamsa Temple burned down

A fire that broke out at dawn on Suraksan in Nowon District, Seoul was brought largely under control after six hours.
According to fire authorities and the Korea Forest Service (KFS), the blaze started around 2:27 a.m. on the 26th in the area of mountain lot No. 153-1 in Sanggye-dong, Nowon District.
The fire is believed to have started at Suamsa Temple, located on the mid-slope of Suraksan, before spreading into a forest fire.
Authorities deployed eight helicopters, 56 pieces of equipment, and 848 personnel to fight the blaze, and brought the main fire under control at around 8:18 a.m.
Three buildings at Suamsa Temple were burned down in the fire, and 17,380 square meters of forest were destroyed.
No casualties have been reported so far.
At around 4:06 a.m., Nowon District sent an emergency alert text message advising, "Residents in the vicinity are advised to evacuate to a safe location."
A fire department official stated, "We are investigating the exact cause of the fire."
