[Financial News] On the 25th, after President Lee Jae-myung withdrew the nomination of Lee Hye-hoon as Minister of Planning and Budget, Bae Hyun-jin, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, issued a warning to the former lawmaker. Bae said, "If there is any retaliation against the members who assisted in the confirmation vetting, the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter of the People Power Party will not sit idle."
On the same day, Bae wrote on her Facebook page, "We have also confirmed indications that Lee Hye-hoon, a former lawmaker, was tracking and snooping on developments in the Jung–Seongdong B constituency, which used to be her district, through an insider."
Bae wrote, "The withdrawal of Lee Hye-hoon's nomination. Who would have thought this bust drama would end so briefly." She continued, "Watching yesterday's confirmation hearing, it seemed this should not end with a withdrawal but should lead to an investigation."
She went on to stress, "If there is any form of retaliation against members in the Jung–Seongdong B constituency who assisted in the confirmation vetting of herself, the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter of the People Power Party will not stand by."
Earlier, President Lee withdrew Lee Hye-hoon's nomination after her confirmation hearing led to a deterioration in public opinion.
Hong Ihk-pyo, senior presidential secretary for political affairs at Cheong Wa Dae, said in a briefing that "President Lee Jae-myung listened carefully to a wide range of opinions from all sectors of society regarding this nominee and closely examined the confirmation hearing and subsequent public assessment." He explained, "Regrettably, she did not meet the expectations of the public as Minister of Planning and Budget in a government based on popular sovereignty."
He added, "After much deliberation and consideration, President Lee decided to withdraw the nominee's designation." He continued, "The president's reflection and efforts to reaffirm the meaning and value of grand unity through inclusive appointments will continue."
