[The Financial News] Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has drawn attention by naming the gift of a Mercedes-Benz car to his parents as the one thing he truly regrets.
According to industry sources on the 24th, Huang shared this anecdote during a conversation with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on the 21st (local time).
Huang said, "The only thing I really regret is that right after our initial public offering (IPO), I sold some Nvidia shares because I wanted to give my parents a nice gift," adding, "At the time, Nvidia’s valuation was about 300 million dollars (around 435.9 billion won), and with that money I bought them a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which was one of the most expensive cars in the world then." He then laughed and said, "Even my parents regret that choice now."
Nvidia went public on the Nasdaq Stock Market (NASDAQ) in 1999. Its share price was only 12 dollars at the time, but 27 years later the company’s market capitalization has reached 4.4916 trillion dollars (about 6,526 trillion won), making it the most valuable company in the world by market cap. Huang was effectively saying that he would be even wealthier today if he had not sold those shares back then.

He went on to say, "The artificial intelligence (AI) boom has kicked off the largest infrastructure buildout in human history," stressing that, "Hundreds of billions of dollars have already been invested, but trillions of dollars more in infrastructure still need to be added."
However, as the AI boom deepens memory bottlenecks, some observers expect Nvidia to focus more on higher-margin AI GPUs than on consumer GeForce GPUs. In this process, memory manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are seen as beneficiaries. The YouTuber "Moore’s Law Is Dead" has claimed that Nvidia could halt production of the GeForce RTX 5060 for about six months. There is also speculation that production cuts for the GeForce RTX 50 Series could be expanded across all models so the company can clear the backlog of AI GPU orders.
Meanwhile, German YouTuber der8auer reported that Nvidia recently ended its Open Price Program (OPP), under which it had helped partner companies sell products at around the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). As a result, analysts say price hikes across the GeForce RTX 50 Series are now virtually unavoidable.
