[Financial News] U.S. high-end watch brand Jacob & Co. has unveiled a custom-made watch worth about $1.5 million (around 2.2 billion won), commissioned by the son of an Indian business tycoon, drawing widespread attention.
According to the Hindustan Times and other Indian media on the 22nd (local time), Jacob & Co. revealed the 'Opera Vantara Green Camo' the previous day.
The 'Opera Vantara Green Camo' was created as a tribute to the Vantara Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre founded by Anant Ambani.
The Vantara Centre wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and conservation centre in Gujarat, India, is a wildlife sanctuary led by Anant Ambani, the second son of India’s richest man, Reliance Industries Group chairman Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani.
At the center of the watch, which was commissioned by Anant Ambani, is a painted figurine of Anant symbolizing his sense of mission and responsibility as the manager of Vantara. Around it are figures of a lion and a Bengal tiger, representing the wild animals protected by the Vantara Centre.
The timepiece is also set with 397 gemstones weighing a total of 21.98 carats, including Demantoid garnet, Tsavorite, green sapphires, and white diamonds.
The brand has not yet officially announced the price of the watch, but specialist watch outlet Watchopea reported that it is estimated at around $1.5 million (about 2.2 billion won).
India Today noted that Anant Ambani is such an avid luxury watch enthusiast that he even gifted luxury timepieces to guests at his wedding.
