Barron Trump, 20, the youngest son of United States President Donald John Trump, saw a friend in London, United Kingdom (UK), being assaulted during a video call and alerted local police, helping to rescue her.
According to Metro (British newspaper) on the 21st (local time), proceedings at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London that day revealed that Barron played a crucial role as the person who reported an assault that occurred at about 2:23 a.m. on 18 January last year.
At the time, Barron received a FaceTime video call from a female friend in London and witnessed her being attacked by a man.
Barron immediately called the 999 emergency telephone number in the UK and reported, "I just got a call from a girl I know and she’s being beaten up."
According to a transcript released in court, after giving the woman’s address Barron pleaded, "It’s really urgent. Please help. A man is hitting her."
Bodycam footage from officers of the Metropolitan Police Service (Met Police) who responded to the scene also captured them trying to confirm who had made the report.
At first, police only knew that the report had come from the United States. They later obtained a statement from the victim saying, "I’m friends with Barron Trump, the son of Donald John Trump."
When officers called Barron back to verify the facts, he told them, "I had someone place the call for me," and explained, "I answered expecting a friendly chat, but I saw the ceiling and heard screaming. Then I saw a man’s head, and the camera turned toward a crying woman and I could see her being hit."
He went on, "The best thing I could do was report it," adding, "I thought calling her back when she was being threatened could make things even worse."
The fact that Barron helped in the rescue only became known more than a year after the incident. On the same day at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London, a trial related to the assault case was held. In court, the victim said Barron’s report was "like a sign from God" and added, "He helped save my life."
The attacker was identified as the victim’s ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old Russian national Matvei Rumiantsev, who allegedly committed the crime out of jealousy over her relationship with Barron. He is said to have been enraged that she remained close to Barron. Rumiantsev has been charged with assault, two counts of rape, and perverting the course of justice.
