[The Financial News] Police have summoned a civic group official who filed a complaint alleging that the son of Minister of Planning and Budget nominee Lee Hye-hoon received preferential treatment in fulfilling his mandatory military service.
Seoul Bangbae Police Station stated that on the morning of the 22nd it called in Kim Soon Hwan, secretary-general of the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood, and is questioning him about the circumstances under which he accused Lee of charges including abuse of authority and obstruction of business.
Before the questioning, Kim told reporters, "Regarding the alleged preferential treatment in her children's military service, I will ask the investigators to closely examine possible abuse of authority," adding, "The key issue is what concrete benefits were received and in what way."
Kim filed the complaint with police on the 13th, arguing that there is a strong possibility Lee improperly intervened in the process by which her second and third sons were assigned as social service personnel to workplaces close to their home.
Earlier, police also took a statement from Kim Hanme, head of Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice, who accused Lee of delaying the marriage registration of her eldest son to inflate the number of dependents and thereby win an apartment subscription.
