Financial News reported that in Vietnam, a foreign tourist was filmed wrapping his entire body in bananas and attempting to enter a wild monkey habitat to lure the animals, sparking controversy.
On the 19th local time, VnExpress and other local outlets reported that a video was spreading on social media showing a foreign tourist in Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula wrapping his body in ripe bananas to get close to wild monkeys.
The footage, believed to have been filmed on the 18th, shows a man entering a wild monkey habitat in Son Tra with bunches of bananas taped around his waist, arms, and legs using clear tape. He appears delighted as monkeys approach him and snatch the bananas.
Staff from a nearby resort who witnessed the scene rushed over and told the man to stop, saying it was inappropriate to feed wild animals. After being stopped, the man reportedly left the area on a motorbike without facing any further intervention.
As the video spread rapidly online, criticism mounted locally. VnExpress added, “Viewers pointed out that the area has clear warning signs strictly prohibiting the feeding of monkeys, yet he still engaged in behavior that violates wildlife protection rules.”
The Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula has reportedly received a report on the incident and is verifying the details. It stated that patrols will be strengthened and visitors will be reminded to strictly follow wildlife protection rules, in order to preserve the natural ecosystem and maintain Son Tra Peninsula’s image as a civilized and safe tourist destination.
