[Financial News] Anchor Kim Ju-ha revealed that she has not received any alimony or child support from her ex-husband, and pointed out problems in the current divorce system. She opened up about the hardship of having to stand on her own while taking on massive debt after the divorce.
According to YouTube channel "MKTV Kim Mi-kyung TV" on the 19th, Kim Ju-ha discussed her recently published essay "A Cat Walks Across the Frozen Han River" and, in the process, spoke about her family situation.
Kim Ju-ha said, "The divorce lawsuit alone took three years. The children were growing up and there were so many expenses, but I had to start over on my own while more than 1 billion won in the red, and I am still paying off the debt." She continued, "I have not received a single won in child support. He neither comes to see the children nor pays child support, yet he goes around telling people that he is paying enough child support."
She also stressed the need for institutional reform. Kim Ju-ha argued, "When you separate because of the other party’s wrongdoing, such as assault or infidelity, it should not end with a maximum of 50 million won in alimony. In many foreign countries, property division is very substantial, but that is not the case in Korea," adding, "Here, we only calculate and divide the portion each person contributed to building the assets. The law itself needs to change."
Kim Ju-ha married a businessman in 2004 and had two children, but she filed for divorce in 2013 due to her ex-husband’s infidelity and physical abuse. The divorce was finalized in 2016.
Earlier, on the 20th of last month on MBN program "Kim Joo-ha's Day & Night," she had already disclosed that she suffered a ruptured eardrum and hearing loss due to her ex-husband’s assault. At the time, she also revealed that she was taken to the emergency room with traumatic brain hemorrhage and strangulation injuries, detailing the domestic violence she endured.
