[The Financial News] Previously, MUSINSA had targeted Coupang by offering a 50,000 won discount coupon. This time, it is rolling out a strengthened promotion: the "Gubbang Coupon" worth 90,000 won.
On the 19th, MUSINSA announced that it will provide a "90,000 won coupon pack" to customers of MUSINSA Store and 29CM through the 28th. Building on the impact of the earlier "50,000 won coupon pack"—which was modeled after Coupang’s compensation plan for customers affected by its personal data leak (50,000 won worth of coupons)—the company has decided to expand the scale of its marketing.
Existing and new members of MUSINSA Store and 29CM can receive the coupons with no conditions attached. The pack consists of coupons that can be used across all categories, including sports, beauty, used items, shoes, outerwear, kids, and Musinsa Standard. An additional 10,000 won discount coupon for offline stores is also provided.
At 29CM, customers receive nine coupons that can each be used in different categories: all categories, fashion, women’s accessories, footwear & sports, home, kids, beauty, food, and 29 Apostrophe. MUSINSA and 29CM also announced that during the event period they will each run a "payback" promotion, returning 5,000 won to customers who charge Musinsa Money, place an order of at least 10,000 won, and then confirm their purchase.
In the retail industry, MUSINSA’s 50,000 won coupon pack, distributed from the 1st to the 14th, has been evaluated as so-called "sniping marketing" that mimicked Coupang’s compensation plan for its customer personal information leak incident. The color scheme of the coupon pack—red, yellow, green, and blue, matching the combination used in Coupang’s corporate logo—also drew attention.
MUSINSA explained that during the coupon promotion period from the 1st to the 14th, the average daily number of new sign-ups increased by 46.1% compared to the same period last year. Over the same period, 29CM’s average daily sign-up growth rate was 53.5%.
Meanwhile, MUSINSA reported that in its beauty category, transaction volume for body care and beauty accessories rose by 100% and 71%, respectively, while at 29CM, transaction volume in the beauty category increased by 65%.
