[The Financial News] Yeo Han-koo, Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, will attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026, to be held in Davos, Switzerland, from the 19th to the 22nd (local time) under the auspices of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 19th, this year’s World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, held under the theme "A Spirit of Dialogue," will bring together heads of state from more than 70 countries, global corporations and opinion leaders to engage in in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation, revitalizing global trade and investment, and identifying new growth engines, among other global agenda items.
During the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Yeo will speak in sessions related to global trade and investment, including those on promoting next-generation global trade, expanding diversified trade and investment, and growth strategies for emerging economies such as ASEAN. He also plans to meet with senior executives from major global companies such as Merck Group, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and A.P. Moller–Maersk to focus on ways to expand investment in South Korea and deepen cooperation.
In addition, Yeo will attend an informal World Trade Organization (WTO) trade ministers’ meeting held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting to discuss the direction of WTO reform and ways to secure outcomes at the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14). In particular, he will lead discussions on incorporating the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement (IFD Agreement), which South Korea has spearheaded, into the WTO framework. He also plans bilateral meetings with trade ministers from key partners such as the European Union (EU), Argentina and Switzerland to address obstacles faced by Korean companies entering those markets and to explore ways to further advance South Korea’s trade network.
Yeo stated, "At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, a venue for political and economic dialogue among global leaders, we will showcase the Republic of Korea (South Korea), which has confidently returned to the international community through the resilience of its democracy, while exercising our global leadership as a middle power state now drawing worldwide attention, to help restore the international economic and trade order facing complex challenges." He added, "On the occasion of Davos, we will concentrate on trade diplomacy that puts the national interest first, including attracting global investment and resolving key trade issues."
