[The Financial News] The police have issued a third summons to Harold Rogers, interim CEO of Coupang, over allegations related to the massive personal data leak.
Park Seong-ju, head of the National Office of Investigation at the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), said at a regular press briefing held on the 19th at KNPA headquarters in Seodaemun District, Seoul, “We issued a third summons to CEO Rogers on the 14th, when the period for the second summons expired,” adding, “We are still within the appearance period, and the deadline has not yet passed.”
Earlier, in connection with Coupang’s announcement of the results of its own internal investigation into the personal data leak, the police issued a first summons to Rogers’ side on the 1st. They then issued a second summons, valid through the 14th, and when he failed to comply, proceeded to issue a third summons.
Rogers is known to have left the country shortly after the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea’s joint hearing on Coupang last month. Accordingly, the Coupang Investigation Task Force under the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) has requested that the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea notify it immediately upon his reentry.
However, there has been no indication so far that Rogers has returned to the country. Park said, “We have not yet received any notification that he has entered the country.”
Separately, the police have formed a Joint Military-Police Investigation Task Force to uncover the facts surrounding North Korea’s claim that its unmanned aerial vehicles infiltrated South Korean airspace, and are continuing their investigation. On the 16th, the task force summoned one civilian suspect for questioning regarding the matter.
The police, however, say it is difficult to provide specific confirmation regarding this suspect.
Park stated, “It is difficult to confirm whether the suspect has been placed under an overseas travel ban,” adding, “We are taking all necessary measures and plan to continue the investigation.”
