[Financial News] Police have launched a full-scale compulsory investigation into allegations that the spouse of Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) lawmaker Kim Byung-kee privately used business promotion expenses of the Dongjak District Council.
According to police on the 19th, the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) conducted search and seizure operations from 7 a.m. that day at three locations: the residence and office of former Dongjak District council member Cho, and the Dongjak District Council.
Former council member Cho is suspected of having paid more than 1 million won in meal expenses between July and September 2022 by providing or prepaying with the Dongjak District Council’s business promotion corporate card so that Kim’s spouse, Ms. Lee, could dine at restaurants in the Yeongdeungpo District and Dongjak District areas.
In this process, police are securing relevant materials focusing on whether the business promotion expenses were used for private purposes and on the circumstances under which the card was provided.
Although Rep. Kim did not personally use the corporate card, he faces allegations that, in his position as a constituency lawmaker with a stake in the matter, he received financial benefits through his spouse.
