[The Financial News] As the dessert "Dubai Chocolate Chewy Cookie" (Dubai chewy cookie) has recently become a craze mainly on social networking service (SNS) platforms, even bizarre listings have begun to appear on secondhand marketplaces.
On the 17th, a post titled "What is this Dubai chewy cookie thing?" was uploaded to Nate Pann along with a single screenshot.
The screenshot showed a listing on the Karrot Market app titled "Selling the paper bag that the Dubai chewy cookies came in." Along with a photo of the "paper bag," the seller wrote, "It’s been less than an hour since I bought it. It might still have a smell." The price was set at 500 won.
Online users reacted negatively. Some criticized it as "selling trash for money," while others sniped, saying, "Next they’ll probably sell the smell of a burp in the bag after eating Dubai chewy cookies."
Other comments suggested, "From what I read, it was supposedly posted as a joke between friends," and, "It’s just a post begging for attention, uploaded to stir up buzz on the community."
The incident also brought back memories of the past Honey Butter Chips craze.
Users wrote comments such as, "This reminds me of when people sold empty bags that still smelled like Honey Butter Chips," "I think I saw a post where someone tried to sell a plastic bag filled with the smell of Honey Butter Chips for 10,000 won," and "I remember people packing a single Honey Butter Chip into tiny zipper bags and selling them."
Meanwhile, Dubai chewy cookies are a cookie-style dessert made by combining premium ingredients such as Kataifi (kadayif), a thin Middle Eastern-style pastry, and pistachio cream, then wrapping them in marshmallow. They are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Despite being smaller than the size of a palm, they are sold for between 6,000 won and over 10,000 won, yet continue to enjoy high popularity.
