[The Financial News] Samsung Electronics and SK hynix will each hold their 2025 fourth-quarter earnings announcement and conference call on the 29th. It is considered unusual for the two domestic memory chip leaders to host conference calls on the same day. Industry observers believe the companies intend not only to present their earnings, but also to aggressively lay out their competitiveness and future strategies in next-generation memory.
According to industry sources on the 18th, SK hynix will hold its conference call at 9 a.m. on the 29th, while Samsung Electronics will follow at 10 a.m. the same day. Given that conference calls typically last from an hour and a half to as long as nearly two hours, the events are expected to overlap significantly. Samsung Electronics first announced its plan to hold a conference call in a disclosure on the 8th. The market had expected SK hynix to avoid a scheduling conflict, but on the 15th SK hynix disclosed that it would release its earnings on the same day as Samsung Electronics.
With both companies currently competing to supply sixth-generation High Bandwidth Memory 4 (HBM4) to major customers such as Nvidia, market attention is expected to focus on updates regarding HBM4 quality testing and the timing of mass production during the upcoming calls. Analysts expect that, beyond the headline earnings figures, every comment that helps gauge their positions in the race for next-generation memory technology will draw intense scrutiny.
Initially, mass production of HBM4 for Nvidia’s next-generation Rubin Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) was expected to begin as early as late last year, with full-scale volume production projected within the first quarter of this year. However, as Nvidia is demanding an operating speed of 11 Gbps—higher than the standard HBM4 speed of 8 Gbps—the actual start of mass production is now forecast to be pushed back. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are both reported to have already submitted HBM4 samples to Nvidia and are continuing to refine their products to meet these requirements.
