[Financial News] A man in his 30s who was indicted on charges of driving under the influence in the heart of downtown Seoul and hitting a Japanese tourist mother and daughter, resulting in the death of the mother, admitted all charges at his first trial.
On the 16th, Judge Kim Ji-young of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25 held the first trial for Mr. Seo, who has been detained and indicted on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and causing death and injury by dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes.
At the hearing, Mr. Seo’s side acknowledged all the facts of the indictment brought by the prosecutor and told the court, "We are in the process of negotiating a possible settlement with the victims’ legal representative."
The court set March 13 as the next hearing date and stated that, barring any special circumstances, it plans to conclude the arguments on that day.
Mr. Seo is accused of drinking three bottles of soju and then driving under the influence on the night of November 2 last year, hitting a Japanese tourist mother and daughter who were crossing a crosswalk near Dongdaemun Station in Jongno District, Seoul. The mother, a woman in her 50s, died.
The mother and daughter had reportedly come to Korea on a three-day, two-night trip and were on their way to see Naksanseonggwak-gil on the first day when the tragedy occurred.
