[Financial News] As the United States of America (U.S.) has repeatedly expressed its intention to purchase Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, even hinting at possible military action, a proposal that Donald Trump’s youngest son Barron (19) and Denmark’s Princess Isabella of Denmark (18) enter into an arranged marriage to resolve the issue is drawing attention among overseas netizens.
According to News1 Korea on the 15th, a well-known political satire account on the social media platform X called "Miss White" suggested the marriage between Barron and Princess Isabella of Denmark as a simple diplomatic solution to the conflict between President Donald Trump and Denmark over Greenland.
In a post on the 8th, this account argued, "Barron Trump and Princess Isabella of Denmark should get married, and Greenland can be given to the U.S. as a dowry."
Barron is the youngest son of real estate tycoon President Donald Trump and his third wife, Melania Trump. Princess Isabella of Denmark is the eldest daughter of King Frederik X of Denmark and is second in line to the throne.
Greenland possesses abundant resources such as rare earth elements, oil and iron ore, attracting global interest from the perspectives of advanced industries and energy security. In particular, rare earth elements are effectively monopolized by China, giving the U.S. a strategic incentive to secure alternative supply chains.
Since 2019, President Donald Trump has insisted that Greenland should be incorporated into the U.S., citing Arctic security and resource acquisition. Denmark, which holds Greenland as an autonomous territory, has flatly rejected the idea, putting it at odds with Trump.
Meanwhile, the post by the "Miss White" account calling for the marriage of Barron and Princess Isabella of Denmark has drawn more than 7,000 comments.
Some netizens commented, "Austria used to resolve disputes this way in the days of the House of Habsburg," "If this were Bridgerton (a hit drama set in Britain’s past), it might actually happen, which is a pity," "How about Barron marrying Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and unifying Spain and the entire Americas?" and "If they get married and then divorce, does Princess Isabella get half of the U.S.?" Others pushed back, saying, "Exchanging countries through marriage is something people did in the 1400s." One user even posted an AI-generated wedding photo of Barron and Princess Isabella of Denmark.
Separately, talks among the U.S., Denmark and Greenland, held in Washington, D.C. on the 14th (local time) to discuss the issue of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, ended without any tangible outcome, merely confirming "fundamental differences" between the sides.
The Ministry of Defence of Denmark announced that, together with its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies, it is reinforcing Danish forces deployed in and around Greenland.
After the talks ended, President Donald Trump wrote on his social media, "If Russia or China tries to seize Greenland, there is nothing Denmark can do, but we can do anything," adding, "Just look at Venezuela last week." In effect, he was flaunting the U.S. capability for military intervention and ratcheting up the pressure.
