[Financial News] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, criticizing the Central Ethics Committee of the People Power Party for deciding to expel former party leader Han Dong-hoon, stressed that "expulsion means mutual destruction" and that "this must stop here."
On the 15th, Mayor Oh posted a message on his Facebook page titled "Let’s stop here."
Mayor Oh said, "On the very day the special prosecutor sought the death penalty for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, the Ethics Committee of the People Power Party voted to expel the former party leader Han," adding, "The public feels devastated and disappointed by this unfamiliar and disconcerting behavior from the People Power Party."
He went on, "At a time when we should be showing self-restraint and reflection, the People Power Party is instead displaying division and conflict, walking down an abnormal path, a path of mutual destruction," and asked, "Why on earth are we leaving the path to victory and choosing a path of self-destruction?"
Mayor Oh also said, "Former leader Han must provide an explanation that party members can accept," urging him to "first create a basis for unity and reconciliation."
He continued, "Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok must also stop now," emphasizing, "He must lead the party with greater leadership. Expulsion means collective ruin."
He then said, "Have we forgotten the painful lesson from the time we forcibly drove out former party leader Lee Jun-seok, who was an ally for unity, only to end up on a path of collapse? There must be no hesitation in breaking with that painful past."
Finally, Mayor Oh stressed, "We must unite all forces to confront the arrogant, massive power bloc. Only then can we protect the country and its people," adding, "This is the time to think of the people, who are watching us with a grave and searching gaze."
