[Financial News] On “Dad and Me Season 3,” TV personality Hyun Joo-yup shared the harrowing life he has endured and the current state of his shattered family following a preferential-treatment controversy.
On the episode of TV Chosun’s entertainment program “Dad and Me Season 3” that aired on the 14th, the story of Hyun Joo-yup and his son, whose communication had completely broken down, was revealed.
Hyun Joo-yup appeared looking drastically gaunter after the controversy, shocking everyone. He confessed, “At my peak I weighed 137kg, but after the incident I completely lost my appetite and dropped 15kg in just a month, and in total I have lost about 40kg.”
Hyun Joo-yup’s health condition was extremely serious. Admitting to severe anxiety symptoms and insomnia, he said, “I can’t sleep without medication. In the morning I take about six pills that keep me from feeling sleepy, and in the evening I take 14 to 15 pills including tranquilizers and sleeping pills, for a total of 21 pills a day.” He added that not only he himself but his entire family is relying on psychiatric medication, heightening the sense of tragedy.
What pained viewers the most was the confession of his son Jun-hee, a first-year high school student. Once a highly promising basketball prospect, Jun-hee is currently on a leave of absence from school and has even quit basketball.
Jun-hee explained the reason for his leave of absence, saying, “After my father’s incident, troubled kids at school came up to me and mocked me, saying, ‘I heard your dad is like this.’” He went on to deliver a shocking account of his mental state: “I suffered from insomnia, shortness of breath, and nightmares, and I even had some really dark thoughts.” As his son’s condition worsened, Hyun Joo-yup bowed his head as he recalled the urgent situation in which he had to hospitalize Jun-hee for treatment on four separate occasions.
