[Financial News] A dramatic story has emerged from Switzerland, where a skier happened to notice a person buried in the snow and managed to pull him to safety.
According to the New York Post on the 13th (local time), 37-year-old Matteo Zilla was skiing in Engelberg, Switzerland, on the 10th when he spotted an arm sticking out of the snow.
At the time, Engelberg had received about 40 to 50 centimeters of snowfall the previous night.
Zilla said, "From a distance I saw a man hiking up the mountain without skis and stopped, wondering if I should help him. As I looked around, I noticed a human arm protruding from the snow."
He immediately rushed over, cleared the snow from the buried man's face and mouth, and kept talking to him to check whether he was injured.
The rescue was captured in full by a GoPro camera mounted on Zilla’s helmet.
Zilla recalled, "Once my companion and I realized he wasn’t hurt, we very slowly removed the rest of the snow covering his body."
The man who was miraculously found under the snow is believed to have fallen in after failing to spot a small bush while skiing downhill. Thanks to the swift rescue, he escaped without any injuries.
Meanwhile, an avalanche in the French Alps over the weekend killed six skiers, and a total of 17 people have died in avalanches across Europe over the past month. With fatal accidents occurring frequently in popular ski destinations, authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution.
