Financial News, Tokyo – Correspondent Seo Hye-jin] While Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister of Japan, is considering holding an early election for the House of Representatives of Japan (general election) next month, it has been reported that her eldest son has decided to run in the race.
According to the Sankei Shimbun and Kyodo News on the 14th, Yamamoto Gen (41), a member of the Fukui Prefectural Assembly and the eldest son of Takaichi, has decided to run in the next election for the House of Representatives of Japan in the Fukui 2nd District and plans to soon apply for nomination to the local chapter of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
He told Kyodo News, "I want to serve as a conduit to the central government in order to implement policies."
Yamamoto is the stepson of Takaichi, having become mother and son when Takaichi married her current husband, former member of the House of Representatives of Japan Yamamoto Taku (73), in 2004. Takaichi, who had remained single until relatively late, married Yamamoto, who had previously been married, in 2004.
Takaichi is considering dissolving the House of Representatives of Japan on the first day of the Regular Session of the National Assembly, which is scheduled to convene on the 23rd, and holding an early general election next month.
Meanwhile, in the Fukui 2nd District, former Diet Affairs Committee Chairperson Tsuyoshi Takagi, who lost his seat in the last general election, has also expressed his intention to run, raising the possibility of a split in the conservative camp.
Regarding this, Yamamoto said, "The Fukui 2nd District currently has a vacant Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) seat," adding, "I want to serve as a conduit to the central government in order to implement policies." On concerns about a split among conservatives, he said, "This is not the time for internal fighting," implicitly keeping former Diet Affairs Committee Chairperson Tsuyoshi Takagi in check.
