According to Financial News, Hyundai Engineering and Construction has established a cooperative framework with public startup support institutions to prevent safety accidents at construction sites and to promote a culture of safety.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction announced on the 14th that it has signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Joint Discovery of Innovative Construction Safety Companies and Operation of an Open Innovation Program” with three organizations: the Seoul Business Agency, the Seoul Center for Creative Economy & Innovation, and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT).
The agreement was prepared to enable public institutions under the central and local governments and private construction companies to work together to reduce safety accidents at construction sites and to proactively introduce and disseminate proven safety technologies and services in the field.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction and the three organizations plan to jointly promote: the discovery and nurturing of innovative construction safety companies; cooperation in operating open innovation programs; and tailored support programs for the companies selected. Focusing on innovative safety technologies such as AI-powered closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, construction robots, and safety training platforms, they will gradually carry out technology verification and on-site application.
In addition, they will jointly host an open innovation program contest under the theme of “construction safety,” titled the 2026 H-Safe Open Innovation Challenge. Applications will be accepted in four categories—innovative safety technologies, safety equipment, health and environment, and safety culture—from the 15th until the 8th of next month.
A representative from Hyundai Engineering and Construction said, “This MOU marks an occasion where public institutions and the private sector have come together to promote a culture of safety at construction sites,” adding, “The safety technologies and services selected through the contest will undergo technology demonstration and then be actively applied at Hyundai Engineering and Construction sites.”
