[Financial News] Prime Minister Kim Min-seok of South Korea said on the 13th that “pseudo‐religious cults are a social evil that must be eradicated.”
Presiding over a State Council meeting at Government Complex Seoul that day, Kim said, “Collusion between religion and politics has led to corruption and illegality, raising concerns about state capture, and overseas these groups have been implicated in various crimes and unlawful acts, becoming a source of attacks that undermine our national standing.”
Kim went on to say, “If we leave this as it is, it will result in serious damage at the national level,” adding, “Along with a thorough joint investigation into the Unification Church and the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji), I ask every ministry to seek ways, within its respective domain, to eradicate the harms caused by pseudo‐religious cults.”
They also discussed measures to improve the emergency patient transport system. Kim noted, “The emergency patient transport system is the most basic piece of national infrastructure, directly linked to the lives of our people,” and pointed out that “there have been repeated cases in which people tragically lost their lives because the golden hour was missed.”
Kim said, “The Lee Jae-myung administration, which places the value of respect for life at the center of state affairs, has decided, after intense discussions with frontline workers and experts, to launch a pilot program to improve the emergency transport system,” adding, “I ask the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Fire Agency (NFA) to work in close cooperation not only with each other but also with local governments, and to make thorough preparations so that these efforts can bring about tangible changes on the ground.”
