[The Financial News] There is a saying that "Chanel is cheapest today." As if to prove the idea of so‐called "Cha‐tech"—treating Chanel products as investment assets that gain value just by buying them—the French luxury brand Chanel has raised its prices yet again.
According to the luxury industry on the 18th, Chanel Korea raised the prices of some products, including handbags sold in Korea, starting on the 13th.
With this latest increase, the Classic Maxi Handbag has gone up 7.5%, from 18.92 million won to 20.33 million won.
The Classic 11.12 Handbag jumped 7.4%, from 16.66 million won to 17.9 million won.
The Boy Chanel Small Flap Bag also rose 7.5%, from 9.86 million won to 10.6 million won.
Meanwhile, Chanel has overtaken Louis Vuitton, the French luxury brand that long held the No. 1 spot in fashion‐sector brand value in the global luxury market, to claim first place in the fashion category.
According to the "Brand Finance Luxury & Premium 50 2025 Report" released on the 2nd by UK brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance, Chanel’s brand value surged 45% year‐on‐year to 37.9 billion dollars (about 54.8 trillion won).
Some observers say this shows that Chanel’s ultra‐high‐price strategy has hit the mark.
Chanel, which has been implementing yet another round of price hikes almost every year, raised prices on some products such as bags and jewelry in January and June last year. It then increased prices again in September and November on selected items including bags, wallets and shoes.
This year as well, Chanel is expected to carry out yet another round of price increases.
