[Financial News] The United States of America (U.S.) has decided to impose a 25% tariff on imports from countries that trade with Iran.
On the 12th (local time), foreign media including The Associated Press (AP) and Cable News Network (CNN) reported that U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, “Regardless of which country or company is doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran, they will have to immediately pay a 25% tariff,” adding, “This order is final and conclusive.”
Iran’s major trading partners include the People's Republic of China (PRC), the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Türkiye, and Russia.
Foreign media have assessed that this additional tariff pressure is intended to put pressure on the Iranian government over its violent crackdown on anti-government protests, in which more than 600 people have been killed.
