[Financial News] A woman in India has filed a fraud complaint against her husband and his family, alleging that he deceived her about his hair, education, and income before their marriage.
According to local media including New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV) and The Indian Express on the 12th, a woman identified as A, who lives in Noida in northern India, reported her husband and four of his family members to the police on charges including fraud, domestic violence, and intimidation. The couple married on January 16, 2024.
A claimed, "During the matchmaking process before the wedding, my husband said he had a full head of hair, but in reality he was bald and was wearing a wig."
She added, "I was only told he had mild hair loss, and I had no idea he was actually bald before the marriage," recounting that "I found out on our wedding night when he took off his wig."
She further alleged that he concealed his educational background and financial status. A said, "In the profile he presented before the marriage, it was written that he had a bachelor's degree, but in fact he had only graduated from high school," adding, "His annual income was also far lower than the amount he had claimed before the wedding."
A stated, "When I raised these issues, my husband and his family members' attitude changed drastically," claiming that "they repeatedly subjected me to psychological and physical abuse, threatening me and saying they would leak my private photos."
She went on, "My husband took jewelry worth 1.5 million Indian rupee (about 25 million won) that I brought into the marriage and then threw me out of the house," adding, "He went on a trip to Thailand and tried to force me to smuggle drugs into India."
Police, who have launched an investigation into five people including A's husband and his family members, said, "Based on the victim's statement, we have registered a case and are securing related evidence such as mobile phones, photos, and financial transaction records."
