KOSPI tops 4,600 for first time ever, closes at record high of 4,624.79 [fn Closing Market]

On the day, the KOSPI finished at 4,624.79, up 38.47 points (0.84%) from the previous session. It opened at 4,639.89, up 53.57 points (1.17%) from the previous close, hitting an all-time intraday high right from the start. It then renewed its record again at around 9:03 a.m., touching 4,652.54.
Afterward, the index gave back its gains and at one point slipped below the 4,600 level.
In the domestic main board market, individual investors maintained net buying for most of the session but turned to net sellers toward the close. Individuals and foreign investors ended the day with net sales of 100.1 billion won and 352.1 billion won, respectively, while institutions were net buyers of 208.9 billion won.
Among the top 14 stocks by market capitalization, Hanwha Ocean, Doosan Enerbility, and LG Energy Solution posted the largest gains, rising 8.41%, 4.63%, and 4.41%, respectively.
Samsung Electronics, the largest stock by market capitalization, closed at 1,388,000 won, down 0.16% from the previous session. Kia, Celltrion, and Samsung Biologics recorded relatively steep declines of 2.93%, 1.38%, and 1.01%, respectively.
The KOSDAQ Index ended at 949.81, up 1.89 points (0.20%) from the previous trading day. It opened at 948.48, up 0.56 points (0.06%).
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the exchange rate of the South Korean won against the United States dollar (USD) opened at 1,461.3 won per dollar, up 3.7 won from the previous session, and closed at 1,468.4 won, up 10.8 won.
