[Financial News] The police have formed a Joint Military-Police Investigation Task Force (TF) to get to the bottom of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s claim that a South Korean unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) infiltrated its airspace.
The National Office of Investigation announced in a press release on the 12th that "in relation to this drone incident, we have launched an investigation by forming a 'Joint Military-Police Investigation TF' consisting of about 20 police officers and about 10 military personnel, for a total of around 30 members, headed by the Director of the National Security Investigation Bureau at the National Office of Investigation."
The task force was set up just two days after President Lee Jae-myung ordered an investigation led by a joint military-police investigative team on the 10th.
Earlier, in a statement the previous day, a spokesperson for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army claimed that it had shot down drones that the Republic of Korea had sent into its territory in September last year and again on the 4th of this month. In response, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said that the South Korean military does not possess such drones and pledged to thoroughly investigate the possibility that they were civilian drones.
The Joint Military-Police Investigation TF plans to clearly establish the full facts through a swift and rigorous investigation.
