[Financial News] Korean American director Maggie Kang’s film “KPop Demon Hunters” (abbreviated in Korean as “Kedeheon”) has won the best original song award at the prestigious Golden Globe Awards in the United States.
At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards held on the 11th (local time) at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles (LA), the soundtrack “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters beat out fellow nominees “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “Sinners,” “Wicked: For Good,” and “Train Dreams” to take home the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song – Motion Picture.
Singer-songwriter EJAE took the stage to receive the trophy and, in tears, delivered her acceptance speech.
“When I was a young girl, I spent ten years tirelessly chasing a single dream of becoming an idol, only to be rejected and devastated because I was told my voice wasn’t good enough,” EJAE said. “To overcome that pain, I turned to singing and music, and now I stand here as a singer and songwriter.”
She continued, “I’ve become part of a song that helps other girls and boys, and everyone, overcome hardship and accept themselves. It’s a dream come true.”
EJAE added, “I want to say thank you to my family and my fiancé,” and then shouted in Korean, “Mom, I love you.”
KPop Demon Hunters is also nominated at this year’s Golden Globe Awards in the Best Animated Feature category and for the Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
The winners in those categories have not yet been announced.
The Golden Globe Awards, which present prizes in separate film and television divisions, are one of Hollywood’s major award ceremonies and have been held since 1944. Nominees and winners in a total of 28 categories are selected by a vote of more than 300 journalists from the entertainment industry in the United States and around the world.
