KEPCO E&C is a company specializing in nuclear power plant design and engineering, while Turner & Townsend is a global PM specialist firm.
This agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in June last year between HanmiGlobal and KEPCO E&C on cooperation in nuclear power projects. It was pursued to strengthen global project management capabilities in the nuclear sector and to create joint business opportunities for the two companies in domestic and overseas nuclear power markets.
Through this agreement, the three companies plan to combine their respective strengths to maximize competitiveness in the global nuclear power market. In particular, by securing the capability to propose an integrated package covering design, engineering, project management, and cost and schedule management required for global nuclear power projects, they are expected to reinforce their foundation for entering key markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The three companies will dispatch experts to one another to share technologies and experience, exchange information on promising projects, and continue to explore opportunities for joint execution. They also plan to leverage digital technologies to further shorten construction periods, reduce costs, and enhance risk management for nuclear power projects. In addition, they intend to expand the scope of cooperation to include plant upgrades and post-operation management across large nuclear power plants, Small Modular Reactors (SMR), nuclear decommissioning, and the construction of radioactive waste disposal facilities, thereby jointly responding to the development of new markets throughout the entire life cycle of nuclear power plants.
Meanwhile, leveraging its global construction project management capabilities, including experience in managing more than 3,200 construction projects across 66 countries, HanmiGlobal made a full-fledged entry into the nuclear power market last August by winning the PM service contract for the long-term operation project of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 in Romania.
