According to Financial News, former President Yoon Suk Yeol entered the courtroom for the final hearing in his trial on charges of leading an insurrection wearing a white shirt and a navy suit. After greeting the bench, he looked around the gallery, then moved to the defendant's seat and sat down.
At 9:20 a.m. on the 9th, Criminal Agreement Division 25 of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Judge Jee Kui-yeon, opened the final hearing for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is charged with leading an insurrection, and for former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, former Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency Jo Jiho, and other senior military and police officials indicted for participating in key insurrection-related duties.
Yoon, who was the first sitting president in the country's constitutional history to be arrested and indicted while in office, faced his closing trial on this day. As the cases were consolidated, former defense minister Kim, who appeared in a navy turtleneck and navy suit, was tried alongside him. Former police chief Jo, also dressed in a white shirt and navy suit, wore a white mask and repeatedly squeezed his eyes shut and opened them, appearing visibly tense.
From the Special Prosecutor's Team for Insurrection, Assistant Special Prosecutor Park Eok-su and dispatched prosecutors Jang Jun-ho, Cho Jae-cheol, Seo Seong-gwan, and Koo Seung-gi were present. Representing former President Yoon were attorneys Yoon Kap-geun, Wi Hyun-seok, Bae Eui-cheol, Bae Bo-yoon, Kim Hong-il, Gye-ri Kim, and Song Jin-ho.
The prosecution is expected to present its sentencing recommendations for Yoon and the other key defendants to the court today. The first-instance verdict is forecast to be handed down around mid-February, before the regular rotation of judges.
