According to Financial News, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will visit Nara, Japan, from January 13 to 14 for a two-day, one-night trip at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Cheong Wa Dae (the Blue House) announced in a press release on the 9th that President Lee will arrive in Nara on the afternoon of the 13th and hold a summit meeting and dinner with Prime Minister Takaichi. The two leaders are expected to have wide-ranging discussions on ways to strengthen practical cooperation in areas directly affecting people’s livelihoods, including the economy, society, and culture, as well as regional and global issues.
On the morning of the 14th, the two leaders will take part in a friendship event together. Later that afternoon, President Lee plans to hold a meeting with Korean residents before returning home.
Cheong Wa Dae said it expects this visit to Japan, realized early in Prime Minister Takaichi’s term, to serve as an opportunity to embody the spirit of ‘shuttle diplomacy,’ under which the leaders frequently visit each other’s countries. It added that the trip is also significant for solidifying the future-oriented and stable trajectory of Korea–Japan relations.
